2002 cavalier trunk won't stay open?

I was recently moving and had a large cardboard box shoved into my trunk. When I went to take the box out it didn't want to come out so I had to force it out. one of the rods that that holds the trunk open got stuck on the box and became disconnected. The trunk used to open easily and would stay in the upright position. now i takes more effort to open the lid and it won't stay open the bar that is disconnected has a cylinder part in the middle which i believe has a spring inside. I thought i had figured out how to reconnect it, and I got the lid to stay up but when i tried to shut it, the rod sprung out of place. Any help or pictures of how it should look would be appreciated.
