How do I get my ringtones to work when I get a text message?

I got the uscellular lg optimus u and I can olny get my ringtones to work for calls not texts and I want them to work for both I need help and I cant call uscellular or go there unless im with the account holder or have his social security #. I cant see him alot so I need advice om what I can do myself to fix this
