Girl question...help?

Once you have an actual flow it's fine to insert a tampon, even if it's somewhat light. There's nothing wrong with cardboard applicators; they're easy to use. I find them to be slightly more uncomfortable though, as the plastic applicators are generally smoother and more streamlined. Just be sure to use the minimum size you can to manage your flow - that'll probably be a regular or maybe a light tampon.
