Doing a project on cutting. What are techniques known for cutting yourself?

Hi! I have to do this PSA type project for English and my subject is cutting. I don't know much about it, does anyone know any techniques (I guess you could say) that people use. I need the usual ways and then the painless ways. (Is there such thing?) It has to be a realistic brochure and due next week so help would be appreciated!!!
