Can regular Acrylic paints be used on brown cardboard?

Acrylic paint should adhere to the cardboard or the dry wall however it would be a good idea to prime the surface first with a latex paint as the acrylic paint will soak in to the material. Without priming first there could be some darkening of the colors but not that much.Your problem would be that you would use up your paint much to quickly.
